Really enjoyed the article. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own misery that it takes an outsider to show us how great we are...

Thanks for such a feel good story. As others have commented, makes me proud to be an american, in spite of the political folly surrounding us all.

Thank you, I needed to read this. I have been so embarrassed for my country, for our failure to keep out the welcome mat, but I see from your reporting that this is not the end game, that eventually our better nature, wiser prospective, might endure. Thank you Teresa.

I missed you when you left the Globe, but I'm so happy that I found you here, still writing columns that make me laugh, cry, and love everything about our great country, except the people who run it! Have a wonderful vacay and celebration of our 250th b'day. See you when you get back.

I am not a sports fan, and have been grumpy about all the news coverage of the games. However, , your essay changed my mind, shifted my attitude, and lifted my spirits.

There has been scant coverage of the international visitors except a brief shot of the bagpipers a couple of times a week. This was all I knew of the happenings of the international visitors until your reportage today.

Your essay brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for awakening my patriotism. For the first time I look forward to celebrating our grand 250. I refuse to let D.C. shenanigans interfere with my American pride and gratitude.

Enjoy your holiday, Teresa!

While I’m not a true soccer enthusiast, this column has renewed my belief in the power and caring nature of many fabulous citizens in our country.

This warms my heart and restores my belief in our fellow humans all around the world. Amidst all the horrors, this is a drink of cold, sweet iced tea!
