To simply argue at the level of DJT's mental health makes for a very incomplete argument. Some comment has to be made about the degree to which even high school graduates fall for the simplistic interpretation of 250 years of "independence" (since approximately July 4th, 1776). I just read the amazing article by Daniel Immerwahr in The New Yorker May 11 & 18, 2026. IMHO the Founders and Framers engaged in hyperbolic rhetoric and created a lopsided Executive rather than the effective checks & balances we were taught in elementary school was the essence of the Constitution written by the Federalists (and opposed, of course, by the Anti-Federalists). DJT has taken advantage of the way in which the Executive is both the Head of Government (although not like a Prime Minister) and the Head of State (although not like an Absolutist Monarch). Rodney D. Scott (1999) in The Great Debate (Rampant Lion Press) provides a somewhat popular (not strictly academic) window on the strengths & weaknesses of a "presidential system" versus a "parliamentary system". It is not all just about the individual who holds the office. Reforms of the role set of a POTUS may never happen, but in some ways DJT is following in the footsteps of FDR by becoming an "Imperial President" who is a kind of "elected Monarch". (Note that the Pope of the RCC is also an "elected monarch," elected by "electors"!)

Have you heard the rumor of the possible coup contemplated by Rubio and Vance via the 25th? We can only hope!

I love this newsletter and cannot stand Trump. But it is disingenuous to discuss this without also discussing Biden's decline (and that of several notorious members of Congress). It is time for a mandatory retirement age for politicians. This should be something both parties can easily agree on.

Yes, Trump is mentally deranged!

What’s so troubling is that this decline, this danger was well documented in Bandy X. Lee’s 2017 collection by 27 psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health professionals. These experts made a compelling case, almost a decade ago of “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump”.

IMO Trump is not only insane , he is evil.

The greedy, power hungry old and young will support him as long as they get what they want.

Others will support them because they are self-righteous and refuse to respect others.

The next decades will be sorrowful for the many.

Humanity has only itself to blame.

Don't let him near the nuclear buttons! The one thing I've noticed about Americans is we always seem to wait until we've driven through a ROAD CLOSED Sign and are flying through the air. Just like in National Lampoon's Vacation🤬😵‍💫🤯 https://youtu.be/ZH39ktYN000?si=5dIxLeLlKkC7ewWy

You know what? I'm sick and tired of listening, reading and watching the reality of the most dramatic, and pathetic, piece of American history. It is what it is and every single one of the 75 million or so voters new perfectly well who -or what- they catapulting into the WH. Also, Democrats, and especially Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, share responsibility for the outcome. So, what can be done? I suppose the first thing is for Democrats to come up with normal, trustworthy candidates that have a brain and are able to convince voters in November.

Trump lost it in the 80s, at least. He was COD at my employer and had a hard time with the truth.

He's already lost it. And I'm a geriatric psychiatrist.

No. How can someone who never had it, lose it?
